Privacy policy

ChirpFinder

Effective date: October 3, 2026

Introduction and scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Set In Stone (“Set In Stone”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with ChirpFinder (the “App”). It applies to your use of the App and does not apply to any third-party website, product, or service that may be linked from the App, including Apple’s own services, which are governed by Apple’s own privacy policy.

Data controller and contact

Set In Stone is responsible for ChirpFinder. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to [email protected].

Data we collect

ChirpFinder requests microphone access, used only to listen for repeating smoke and carbon monoxide alarm chirps while the app is open. Audio is analyzed in memory, in real time, and is never recorded, stored, uploaded, or shared. Set In Stone never receives your audio.

The app stores a local onboarding-completion flag and your purchase status on your device.

When you make the lifetime purchase, StoreKit provides the app with limited product and transaction information needed to complete the purchase and verify access, such as the product identifier and current entitlement status. Set In Stone does not receive your full payment-card details.

How we use data

Microphone input is processed on-device solely to detect repeating detector chirps and estimate relative signal strength.

StoreKit transaction information is used only to sell the lifetime unlock, verify purchase status, and restore purchases.

Legal basis for processing

On-device audio processing is necessary to provide the core feature you open the app to use. StoreKit purchase processing is necessary to perform the transaction you initiate and provide paid access.

Third-party services and processors

Apple provides the App Store and StoreKit purchase infrastructure. Apple may process Apple Account, payment, transaction, device, tax, and fraud-prevention information under Apple’s own privacy policy.

ChirpFinder does not include third-party advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, authentication, or tracking SDKs, and it makes no network requests.

Apple’s own collection and use of information through the App Store and related services is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy, not this one.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information processed in connection with the App, including relying on the security protections built into iOS, Apple’s App Sandbox, and, where applicable, encryption in transit for any network requests the App makes. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Cookies and web tracking

The App is a native iOS application and does not use browser cookies or web tracking technologies. Any analytics or crash-reporting activity disclosed above operates within the App itself, not through a web browser, and is separate from cookie-based tracking.

Data retention

ChirpFinder does not retain audio at all; each buffer is analyzed and discarded in real time. Your local purchase status and onboarding flag remain on your iPhone until you delete the app. Apple retains purchase records under its own policies.

International data transfers

Set In Stone does not transfer any ChirpFinder data because none is collected or transmitted. Apple may process purchase information in countries where it or its service providers operate, subject to Apple’s privacy terms.

Your privacy rights

Because ChirpFinder does not collect or retain any personal information or audio, there is no stored personal data for Set In Stone to access, correct, or delete on your behalf.

Depending on where you live, these rights may include the right to access, correct, delete, or export your information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Where we act only as a processor of information that is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to us, you can typically exercise these rights directly within the App by editing or deleting the relevant content.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. California residents may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR). Where European or UK data protection law applies, you have the rights described above under Articles 15–22 of the GDPR, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Data requests and deletion

There is no account or stored personal data to request or delete. To remove all local app data, delete the app from your iPhone. For any other privacy questions, email [email protected]. Apple Account and purchase-record requests must be directed to Apple.

Children's privacy

ChirpFinder is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. The app collects no personal information from any user, including children, because it does not operate an account or data-collection service.

Automated decision-making

The App does not use your personal information to make any decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you through automated means alone.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date. Where required, additional notice will be provided in the app or through the App Store listing.
